2007 WFAO Shanghai ‚leeting Report and expression of gratitude towards our hosts

The World Federation of@Amateur Orchestras (WFAO)held its bi-annual Executive Board Meeting in Shanghai, China from May 11 to May 13, 2007. Representatives of 12 member nations attended the meeting. The nations represented were in alphabetical order Belgium, China, Finland, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Scotland, the United States, and Venezuela.
The meeting was held at the Dongjia State Guest Hotel thanks to the courtesy of the Shanghai City Administration Agency and the Shanghai City Symphony orchestra who were hosting the meeting.
The meeting reelected the Board for another period of two years, which is from 2007 to 2009. The reelection officers are
as follows:
Mr. Nobuo Kamino, President, Mr. Motoyasu Morishita, Chairperson of the Board, Mr. Gerbrand Kotting, Vice-chair
Mr. Richard Chester, Vice-chair
One of the topics that was given particular attention during the deliberations was to examine the way WFAO could participate in the upcoming Shanghai 2010 Expo.@The general policies of WFAO in the future were intensely debated
and a "Common Declaration" text was adopted. (The Common Declaration text is available on this Website under that title.)It was also convened that the next WFAO meeting in 2009 will be held in Europe and consultations with possible
host countries has already begun.
I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to all the representatives who participated in that meeting for their invaluable
contribution. I want also to express my very special gratitude to Maestro Cao Peng, the director of the Shanghai City
Symphony Orchestra and to Mrs. Konatsu Ishiwata, the administrator of the orchestra who spared no effort in setting up
this meeting in exceptionally ideal conditions.

I extend also my gratitude to Mr. Yuzuru Yamaji who gave key support in communications with our Shanghai hosts and Mr. Eric Colon who served as our window to the rest of the world.
I have also consulted with Mr. Nobuo Kamino, President of WFAO in order to register WFAO as an international NPO for future activities. This is from my point of view essential step to widen our international cooperation efforts and to gather the interest of possible oversees sponsors in different member countries. We hope to be able to complete the necessary registration formalities by early spring of next year, at the latest

I also hope to be able to officially announce the venue for our 2009 meeting very shortly. I also wish to express the
assurance of our heartfelt friendship to those members who were not able to attend this particular meeting and whom I hope to see again in the next one. Your friend in music

Motoyasu Morishita, Chairperson of WFAO

2007, 5, 23 Chair WFAO Motoyasu Morishita
